Через E-Mule нашла мини-биографию? Даже, пожалуй, творческий портрет.
Rob Gonsalves is a master at taking an ordinary scene and turning it into something magical, something extraordinary, something every child wishes could really happen. A cluster of sunflowers begin bobbing their heads to a fiddler’s nimble tune. A bedtime story starts coming to life behind the eagerly listening children. In fact, ”Magic Realism” is the term that best describes Rob Gonsalves’s work. Born in Toronto, Gonsalves was fascinated by architecture as a child, and began to create renderings of imagined buildings using perspectivedrawing
techniques. By sixteen, Gonsalves was introduced to the surrealistic
images of Salvador Dali and Yves Tanguy and, mesmerized, began his first paintings.
The illusionary devices of Rene Magritte along with the precise perspective of M.C. Escher were also huge influences on his work. After college, he worked full time as an architect and also painted trompe l’oeil murals and theatrical sets.
After an enthusiastic response at the 1990 Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, Gonsalves decided to paint full time. His ideas come from the external world (which many surrealists try to ignore) and involve recognizable human activities using carefully planned illusionist devices. He tries to inject a sense of magic and mystery into an otherwise realistic scene. He currently lives outside Toronto.
